Thimphu Ambition Statement – Madagascar

Madagascar flag
  • Madagascar is constantly exposed to extreme weather events such as tropical storms, floods and droughts. These climate risks have severely impacted our socio-economic development and biodiversity.
  • Madagascar has more than 7,000,000 ha of protected areas have been setting up so far and target 40,000 ha / year of reforestation. The country has made great efforts for the enhancements of renewable energy such as the setting up of solar and hydropower plants providing clean energy across the country. The country is in the process of sustainably managing household waste, most of which is biodegradable, which is the source of methane gas emissions.
  • Madagascar calls on the industrialized countries must enhance their actions in favor of the developing countries by making the adequate means of implementation available, such as the strengthening of financial support, the transfer of technologies for agriculture and clean energy. In addition, the large greenhouse gas emitters must equally increase their emission reduction in order to close the gap and reverse the current trend.
