Thimphu Ambition Statement – Malawi

Malawi flag
  • Malawi’s economy is extremely sensitive to climate change and variability due to its dependence on rain-fed agriculture and its natural resources. Malawi loses an average of 1.7 percent of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per annum from climate change-related disasters.
  • The people of the Republic of Malawi have taken firm decisions and plans to move the country’s development pathways towards a green economy based on national circumstances and capabilities.
  • Malawi is in the process of revising its NDC to reduce national emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change, has begun developing a NAP for addressing climate change adaptation needs, and has established a National Climate Change Fund for climate change management and green growth.
