Binyam Gebreyes

Overview

Binyam Gebreyes is an expert in climate diplomacy, international climate law and governance, serving as Lead Advisor to the Chair of the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group on Climate Change.

Professional Experience

Binyam has extensive experience from his time at the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change of Ethiopia, where he coordinated climate change negotiations, shaped Ethiopia’s contributions to the UNFCCC and other multilateral agreements, and played a central role in drafting environmental regulations, including Ethiopia’s participation in the Minamata Convention on Mercury. He also serves as the Head of Governance for the LDC Initiative for Effective Adaptation and Resilience (LIFE-AR).

Education

Binyam holds a Master of Law (LLM) from the University of South Africa (UNISA).
